The bonds of sisterhood last more than three or four years – they last a LIFETIME! Being an active alumnae sister in Tri Sigma allows women to share in this experience.
Why Tri Sigma? What does the Sorority stand for?
Since 1898, Tri Sigma has provided women with friendship, a sense of purpose, stronger values and more. Tri Sigma’s mission is threefold: To establish among its members a perpetual bond of friendship, to develop in them strong womanly character, and to impress upon them high standards of conduct. Our core values are simple and essential: wisdom, power, faith, hope and love.
How do I become an alumna initiate?
Tri Sigma alumnae may invite qualified women to join our Sisterhood if several criteria are met. They include:
•First, she may not be a member of any other National Panhellenic Conference sorority. (But she may be a member of a local, honorary or service sorority.)
•She has an interest in Sigma Sigma Sigma and our programs.
•She recognizes the value of membership in a national sorority.
•She has the ability to contribute her own special talents. Her interests may lie in the social aspects of the alumnae chapter activities or in their philanthropic projects. She may be an ideal AAB or Housing Corporation member for a collegiate chapter or colony.
•She will make time for Sigma (after family, church and career obligations).
•She must be endorsed by two Sigmas (Alumna, Collegian or National Officer).
Once these criteria have been met, women will receive Arc Degree, entering the New Member phase of Sorority life. Before initiation, women must pass an open-book test on essential Tri Sigma knowledge.
Women are then initiated in one of two ways: by members at a nearby Collegiate Chapter or by an Alumnae Chapter. After initiation, new Tri Sigma alumnae may wear the Sorority’s badge.
What are my financial obligations as a Sigma?
Alumnae initiates must pay a $60 initiation fee, which covers their membership certificate; a lifetime subscription our Sorority magazine, The Triangle; a donation to the Sorority’s Loyalty Fund, the history book of Sigma Sigma Sigma; and a Tri Sigma songbook. Initiates must also purchase the official badge of the Sorority. Alumnae are also expected to pay either annual national alumnae dues of $45 in the year after initiation or Lifetime Dues, as well as any local dues as determined by individual Alumnae Chapters.
If I never wondered,
and if I never tried,
If I never sailed the boat, then stayed along
for the ride,
I would have missed
the laughter,
I would have missed
the tears,
I would have missed
the bond that lasts
throughout the years.
I want to spread the word,
to let the whole world know,
Tri-Sigmas
don't just see the light,
They also feel the glow.
